A whole month

January 16, 2010

By Elena Garcia

It’s been an entire month since my last post and well it’s because I’m in America. This American Girl has returned to the mother land and is sticking around. I had so many trials and tribulations while I tried to conquer the mighty east that I had expected not to miss it at all. But now that we’re settled into our tiny SF apartment and have gotten used to being spoken to in the English language, I must say that I miss it. I miss the chaos, the shopping adventures, the ability to play stupid because “I didn’t understand” but most of all I miss some of the amazing friends that I met while I was there.

It’s funny to think that I miss the whirlwind. I don’t think I could ever live in Shanghai again, but if I were given the opportunity, I don’t know if I could turn it down either! I may not be an American girl in China any more but a piece of China is always with me. Weather its the diligent shoe collection decorating my feet, or my tolerance for hanging poultry, China will forever be with me.

So from now on… Consider this site a confessions of what I miss from China, what I don’t miss and how everything I learned continues to affect me.

These will be my letters to China.
